my favorite tool Jul 14, 2005
By valentina I have been using B&D cordless trimmer model cht 500
for several years.
I maintain a 300 ft drive with hedges on both sides.
This unit is really light, extremely durable, no maintenance and starts every time.
I don't even oil the blades.
I recommend buying a couple of batteries, for large acreage.
I am replacing my batteries for the first time, in 5 years.
I have an echo gas power trimmer, which I never use
and I hope I never have to.
happy gardening

Proper Battery Maintenance Jul 28, 2010

I have had my trimmer for several years and like with all battery-operated tools proper battery maintenance is the key. Getting a better smart charger helps tremendously. The 18v model with slide in charger is better in that you can use the battery with many tools and also get the smart charger. Check out B&D trimmer model NHT5181.
Any Nickel-Cadmium batteries need to be drained low before recharging so not to get the memory effect, if you use it and then charge it before you run the batteries fully down it will get this problem. The solution is to fully charge and discharge the battery pack several times to erase the memory.

Very Disappointed....... Nov 03, 2006

I an not at all happy with this product. The batteries never stay charged long enough to do more then half of a small hedge and my home is sourounded by hedges. I would NOT recommend this product to anyone and cant even use it. Your better off purchasing an electric hedge trimmer.

Junk Jun 15, 2009
By John No power and battery drains rapidly. I went electric, much better but...watch the cord.
B&D CHT500 Apr 27, 2012
By Ed This product is a worthless piece of Junk. the battery lasts about long enough to run the blades until you try and start trimming. and the blades stall with contact of bush! I was able to use it one time. Very expensive useless trimmer.
