replacement spool for GH1000 Jun 02, 2008
By HYTRIN5 I had a Grass Hog 600. It broke 4 times during the 2 yr warranty and used .065 line which is small. I got a good deal on a Grass Hog 1000 because next time the GH600 broke it was out of warranty and history.
The GH10000 is a far superior product in reliability, and cutting ability. It uses .080 line which is heavier for more cutting ability of larger weeds but it is wound in 2 parts and so unlike the GH600, it is really difficult for me to wind the spools using bulk line.
The picture accompanying this item is incorrect. It shows a different spool. These spools are genuine B&D , Black spool with Green line. These are a good buy especially if you get several at a time to offset shipping cost.

Very expensive to operate Jun 18, 2008

I replaced my old GH-600 with the 1000 model. It does cut a line like the Panama Canal, but it is hard to replace the line and I can't even get thru my back and front yard with 1 spool!I am going to find a different model to use, as I can't afford 2 spools a week on my yard. And we're not talking about anything but an average sized lawn.

Not impressed... Sep 27, 2010
By AmazonAddict I have the Black & Decker GH1000 so unfortunately you are stuck using their proprietary line spool. I have had my GH1000 for about 2 1/2 years now and have spent a lot of time using it. At about $10 bucks a pop they aren't cheap, and mine seem to jam all the time. The line is forever coming out of the hole on the spool and I have to stop edging and fix it. Sometimes 2 or 3 times just to edge the front and back lawn. (I have a pretty average size yard too.) Then when you insert it back into the edger, the lines comes out too much to adjust for fixing it and pieces of the line go flying every where. Dangerous and a waste of line! Honestly, I can't wait for my GH1000 to die so I can buy something else.

Replacement Spools May 15, 2011
By Alan D. Johnson Spool was a little tricky to put on only because you have to thread each line through the cover and keep tension on the line while replacing the cover or the line will unwind(quickly). Next time I replace the spool will try putting a clip on the line after it's threaded so that, hopefully, it'll more easily retain the tension. Either that or grow another hand.

It fits. Dec 31, 2010

No real trauma putting this into a Black & Decker GH1000. It fits, it spins. The line lasts decently if you avoid things that will break it. Basically, there's stuff that the string will break/cut and things that will break/cut the string. Figure it out and get much longer string life.
However...
The string feeding system for the GH1000 is about the same as any other trimmer. I don't know that the thicker string is a huge advantage either.
