Don't buy this trimmer Aug 03, 2008
By Lewisinde Don't buy a Homelite. You are wasting your money. My last string timmer, a different brand, lasted 12 years before it went. This one didn't make it 15 months. I bought a Homelite because a major consumer magazine (CR)gave the Homelite string trimmer a best buy rating. For a few weeks, it seemed to start easily and ran smoothly. Then, I started having problems with the string not coming out of the reel. Here I was having to continuously shut the unit off and run the string back through...a major pain. So I bought an adaption kit at Home Depot which replaced the reel with one that holds two precut pieces (this is great and I thoroughly recommend it). Now, after 14 months of owning the trimmer, I am having trouble with the engine. It runs fast, then slow, overheats and shuts off after 5-10 minutes. I have to be careful not to burn myself. I took good care of the unit....used the right gas/oil ratio, changed the spark plug, cleaned the filter, and even removed the gas during the winter months. It didn't really matter. Why bother fixing it...its a piece of junk.

Pleasant Surprise Nov 06, 2010
By Louis R This trimmer was ordered to replace a competitive manufacturer's product. The latter was also reconditioned and lasted about 2 years before "giving up the ghost". It was the second one from this other manufacturer that died after a few years' weekend use for the same problem...impossible to start...even after trying all the online "DIY" suggestions...clean anti-spark screen, carburetor, new spark plug, etc.
I was most surprised when the Homelite Trimmer arrived. Shipping was ultra fast and the reconditioned trimmer looked brand new with the exception of a small branded ""RECON" on the underside. What a pleasure, excellent price, easy to start, light by comparison, easy to handle...and powerful. I would recommend it as a best-buy for anyone interested.
Important Footnote: Be sure to follow Homelite's recommendation and always use Homelite's 2-Cycle Synthetic Oil Blend.

By T. D. Couch Ran for 5 minutes, and never could get it started again for months. Makes a great wall decoration in my shop though.

Remanufactured trimmer May 04, 2008
By CTRichMachOne It came fast. The trimmer looked new, came with all paperwork and hardware. Didn't start as well as was stated(sticker) for starting the machine, but, if you have worked with 2 cycle machines that I have in the past you can't go by the instructions. After I got it running. It works fine. I got what I paid for.
Reconditioned String Trimmer May 25, 2010
By Brave S. Eagle Bought two of these from factory site and must admit they looked just like new. Would have given them 5 stars but found one of them is off on carb setting. Still was a great buy as they do a good job.
