Dead On Arrival May 26, 2009
By Nancy Watson This item arrived looking ok, but would not start. I had someone more experienced with gas models have another look at it, and nothing visibly wrong. When I tried to return the item through amazon, I kept getting a non returnable message. Looking more closely at the ad, I saw it... NOT ELIGIBLE FOR RETURN. So, contacted amazon for manufacturer information, in hopes they would back the product. After first getting a dealer who was out of business, telephone disconnected, no forwarding number, I was given a second dealer, more then an hour from home who says they're a month behind in repairs but for a fee will diagnose the problem. So two hours travel time and a diagnostic fee, then a month for a repair. BE CAREFUL folks, and know you usually get what you pay for!
There is no support for this product.

Great Weed Eater Apr 15, 2009
By Jamman

I have been trimming with a big and very powerful trimmer that most would love and not mind its weight. But I am disabled and would haft to trim my yard with about four rest stops. The weed Eater I bought is very light and I can trim all of my yard with out having to stop. It starts easy and works better than I had expected. The only draw back is this one doesn't have a clutch.(the string spins all of the time direct drive)It took me A few minutes to get used to that. You cannot beat it for the price.

Final verdict on the product and the service. Jun 07, 2010
By Jigar H. Patel

When I ordered this item the product title said "Factory Reconditioned Weed Eater SST25 17-Inch 25 cc 2-Stroke Gas-Powered Straight-Shaft String Trimmer". I ordered the item despite lot of negative review on product condition upon arrival. I am handy man so I didn't mind fixing bits and pieces since the price of $60 for a weed eater was attractive.
When I received the item, to my surprise, nothing was broken during the shipping. But there was a major problem: The box said SST25 on outside but the actual product inside was SST25T! SST25T has a fixed string head while SST25 has a tap-n-go head. I e-mailed Amazon and they sent me replacement in less than a week. Free return shipping as well. The second unit also had the same problem: Box said SST25 and actual unit was SST25T. At this point I thought there must be a whole batch like this that some new employee at Weed eater packaged incorrectly. So I contacted Weed eater to ask for a tap-n-go head that I can put it on myself. To my surprise the manufacture is so arrogant and unhelpful. Weed eater said we only deal with brick-n-mortar dealers and do not support online suppliers. Weedeater refused to send me a replacement head. Mind you, this "miss packaging" is Weedeater's fault and not Amazon's. I contacted Amazon again and explained the situation asking for a refund because I was afraid I would get another SST25T if Amazon shipped a replacement. To my pleasant surprise Amazon refunded my money and asked me to donate/dispose the unit.
Moral of the story: Weed eater service sucks, Amazon is great, and current batch of this product will most likely have SST25T inside the box.

Workds great after tuning carb, 1/4 turn CCW on big screw Aug 29, 2009
By B. Westberg Luckily I read the review about having to tune the carburator. I was able to do it with a skinney needle nose plier and didn't have to buy the special tool.
It was hard to start following the directions, and finally didn't give it any throttle and got it to start. All it would do though is idle until I adjusted the screw on the carb (screw has a really weird head, but does turn given enough incentive).
Have used up a tank and a half of fuel and used up all the string, and it still works good and starts good now that I have it figured out. Although, I doubt if my wife would have ever got it started.
I would buy again, just because of the great price.

Does the job... Jun 07, 2009
By R. V. Hamilton My SST25 arrived this afternoon, and my first impression was that they sure didn't package it very well. The box was open at one end, and the gas cap was not on the unit. The cap was in the box, but how it became detached, is hard to figure out. After some minor assembly, I took off the gear area plug, and discovered that there was almost no grease on the gears. I filled it with grease, and then filled the fuel tank with gas mixed with 100:1 Amsoil 2 cycle oil. I followed the procedure to start it, and it started just fine. After a few minutes, it started to die, so I gave it some gas, and adjusted the idle screw, which was set a bit too low. After that, it idled just fine. I used it for about 2 hrs., with only one stoppage, caused by very heavy weeds getting wrapped around the line spool. I filled up with gas again, and did another 2 hrs. of weed cutting, and it performed better than I ever thought it would, especially after reading some of the reviews. It never died, and cut through some rather thick stalks (11/2"-2"). I killed it 3 times to rake the cuttings, and it always re-started with a few quick pulls. I either have a better machine than many people received, or maybe the use of a 100:1 oil mix made it run much better, but I am very pleased with the Weedeater's performance. I would even have given it 5 stars, but the packaging and the provided shield are really marginal.
