Good Value for the Price Apr 13, 2010

I bought this unit to simply "knock down" once or twice a summer the natural grasses (sheep fescue, etc.) that make up my "high desert" yard. It meets my needs and it was inexpensive. If I lived in an area that required regular, precise yard care then I'd probably look at something with more flexibility and greater power but this is fine for modest needs.
are there any good elec trimmers!? May 19, 2012
By david berryman this is my 3rd elec trimmer in a year. the last 2 black & deckers had motor burnouts about 6 months apart. so i thought i'd try another brand. so far this one trims just fine & i do prefer the bump feed, however as a previous review said restringing the feeder is a real pain. but the thing i'm most upset about is that the foregrip handle broke on the 2nd use. i was tightening the handle down to keep it from spinning on the shaft & the dang thing just cracked & split. ugh.
i do not want to have gas trimmer but maybe to get something with real metal parts & motors i might have to. so buyer beware on this one. i don't expect the motor to last so i'm sure i'll be buying another trimmer in 6 months.
btw, i do not use this for my job but weekly trimmings of my very small yards edges.

By Zizerzazz String trimmers have to be, by far, the most hated garden tool. I cannot find one that most owners don't complain about. So when I saw this McColloch, I shrugged my shoulders and bought it. It's an old and respected name and I have had a chain saw for about 20 years with that name on it. This trimmer only had one review so I knew it couldn't be the most popular unit in lawn care world. Now I know at least one reason why. I can't speak to the general working performance of this unit, as I never even plugged it in. After taking it out of the box, the first thing I looked at was the spool. I unwound it, then tried reloading it to see what that would be like. 5 minutes fumbling with this thing, and I just knew, on a hot summer day, in the middle of trimming, if I had to stop and reload, this unit would wind up being tossed across my lawn in aggravation and disgust. It's a poorly designed system that will have most owners angry and frustrated at the first reload. It will cost me shipping to return, but it's a small price to pay for the future aggravation I have avoided.
