The cutting line is made up of 4 pieces, each about 9" long. Each are threaded through a central hub so that eight 3" lines stick out from under the weedeater. The hub spins & the lines cut the grass. When they break off they have to be replaced. The replacement is either to buy the line, and cut each piece & thread them through the hub or buy additional hubs. Since they break when they hit anything it would take forever to replace the line or be expensive to replace the hub.
I returned it to Amazon who refunded my money without any problem.
Would NOT recommend buying this unit!!

Product comes with hard to use head. I bought this item to replace my Ryobi string trimmer. I attached the Ryobi string head, or an Expandit metal brush cutting blade setup. Both make this unit more useful. Expandit accessories for quick connect shafts are available at Home Depot. I also changed the head to a uiversal quick load head made by Echo(also available from Home Depor), and then use .155 string (thickest available). Now I have an extremely powerful electric trimmer, ready for hard work. Great , powerful unit.

This is a really nice electric weed eater. It gets hot after a little while, but otherwise no mechanical issues so far. The real issue (as mentioned in other reviews) is the line replacement. I figured out how to order line hubs online, only to decide it was just too much of a pain to put the lines in them. So I found a generic replacement head for gas weedeaters that works great. You'll probably want to do this if you buy this product.

This is the worst product I have ever bought on amazon,I wish I could return it, I have gotten rid of packaging material,the spool you get with this product is useless plan on going to depot and buying a replacement spool and spending a additional twenty dollars,thats what I did,I thought I had the problem solved,now when I use it,it smells like it's burning,I should have listened to the other reviews.

First: The instruction manual(User manual) is brief, to put it mildly, and obviously was written for an earlier model.
Second: The Debris Shield opening is approximately 1/8" smaller than the diameter of shaft it fits on. Solving this problem requires brute force and modification of the bracket on the shaft because the distortion of the shield that causes the bolt holes misalignment.
Third: The Assist Handle is different than pictured. There is a 7" extension on the mounting attachment that has some mysterious purpose not mentioned in the manual.
The manual states that the handle is shipped installed on the shaft, whereas mine came in a separate package in the carton which highly suggests that the manufacturer has substituted a different part, for whatever reason.
While the above mentioned items are hardly of major consequence, that make me wonder if the Husqavara(Sp?) group or their McCulloch division in particular is cutting corners that surly will damage a well established reputation. I'm giving the product three stars before I even use it because of the irritation felt for having to solve the problems caused by the manufactures lack of concern for the customers who purchased what appears to be a cobbled up product. My evaluation is no way a reflection on the service provided by Amazon, the Trimmer came in the manufactures unopened carton, in a timely manner and undamaged.
