Excellent & Useful Design! Lasts for Years! May 24, 2009
By M. Corvin
"Corvinus"
I have owned a Poulan Twist N' Edge for over 5 years and it is quite an ingenious product. The Twist N' Edge is so useful and is a big time saver. The integrated metal guide by the cutting head helps you simply rest the trimmer on the edge of a curb or sidewalk for a perfect edging job. Push the button, flip the edger head with a movement of your wrists (imagine putting a hula-hoop on the end of a broomstick and making it loop round and round - that movement) and you are in trimmer mode. A truly great product. I have never had mine serviced and have never replaced anything and it still runs like a charm. A little tough to get started, especially after sitting all winter, but once you get it started, if you need to turn it off to go inside for a drink, when you come back out it will start right up with one or two pulls max. The no-tap centrifugal force-powered line head is very cool and always doles out the perfect length of line. There is a small learning curve on the line head in regards to putting the metal ring on correctly (notch-up) and how tight you put it on (too loose and your line comes out too fast; too tight and not at all). Buy this trimmer!
UPDATE: I would like to mention that, for the most part, this is the same edger I used to use. However, Poulan has revised the overall design a bit. The tank is smaller and sleeker and the gas tank is more easily accessible. My one complaint is that they have curved the shaft more than it used to be so I have to hold it a bit differently to edge, which I don't like. I feel as if I have to lean over at a weird angle. I still like it overall.

Required service after first use Apr 14, 2010
By Allworkandnoplay I was happy with the Poulan P3500 grass trimmer out of the box. The guard was a snap to mount. Before use, I checked the spark plug gap and filled the tank with a fresh gas/oil mix (40:1 oil is supplied). The trimmer was hard to start initially and kept stalling even though ample time was given for warm up. The trimmer had poor throttle response and would stall when given full throttle. My guess is that the air mixture screw needs a simple adjustment. Unfortunately, a special tool is required for adjustment. The first service center that I took the trimmer to, a recommended service center listed at [...], would not work on the trimmer. They told me that they had trouble getting paid by Poulan. The second service center now has the trimmer and I expect it to be ready soon. I still recommend this trimmer but expect the need to take it in for carb adjustment. Check to see where your nearest service center is located [...] and call them to make sure that they will actually service it under warranty before purchase.

Wish the Carb would have been addjusted Jul 06, 2009
By W. E. SNYDER The trimmer was exactly what I wanted and the price was right. However my first experience was not a good one. The trimmer would start fine but would not idle when you took your finger off the triger. I tried multiple things to fix the problem but what was finally required was taking it to an authorized service agent. What was needed was a carberator adjustment of the air to fuel mixture. This adjustment required a special tool that is not normally available to a DIY person. After the adjustment the trimmer runs fine.

Excellent Apr 07, 2010
By Randy L. Montgomery The only assembly required was to put on the guard at the bottom. Took all of 30 seconds. It came with one bottle of oil mix and full of string - not a sample of string like some. I ran two full tanks of fuel through it the first day and it worked like a charm. One tank on normal weedeating around the house and one on heavier farm stuff. It started easy, didn't vibrate badly, is lightweight, and even my girly girlfriend likes to use it. I am impressed. It is not quite one of those heavy duty trimmers that mows down small trees, but is perfect for home use, large yard, and semi-heavy farm use. No more of those cranky always in the shop stihls for me.
Time to edit the review and drop it from 5 stars to 2. Before I make it through one spool of string it began running roughly and the cord pulled right out when I tried to start it. Junk.

Shipped broken and terrible customer service Apr 20, 2010
By Rusty Kennedy

I purchased this item from Amazon. Received it in a timely fashion via FedEx on a Saturday delivery. Filled it with gas and prepped it for usage. Pulled the cord and it came completely out of the weed eater. I reviewed Amazon's return policy and they will not return items that use gas. So then I contacted Poulan and they were not open until Monday AM. I waited until Monday AM and called Poulan. They told me there was nothing they could do for me and informed me that I needed to take my brand new out the box item that was broken to a local service center to be repaired. I called the two closest Poulan service centers near me and they both told me it would be a two week wait for service. I chose Castleton Outdoor Solution and the service man was upset with me because I bought it on line. He wanted to know why I didn't buy it at Lowe's or their store. He was very irritated to service my brand new Poulan Weed Eater even though it was under warranty and he was still going to get paid for the repair.
This whole shopping and customer service experience on Amazon and with Poulan has been very frustrating. I would not make this purchase again with a Poulan product. They don't care about customer service... and as far as I know... their products are junk.
