not a robust attachment Sep 17, 2000
By guy desrochers I bought an entire 725R unit in early summer 1998. The trimmer attachment and the 2 cycle motor drive unit are not robust. I have to buy a replacement add on now as the shaft in the trimmer add-on broke. Had to get a new shaft in the upper portion as well. cost 82 bucks to fix the upper, another 50 bucks for a replacement add on shaft for the trimmer. I could have bought another brand new unit from another manufacturer for what it has cost me so far. Unfortunately, I bought all the other attachments like the blower, edger, thinking I was getting a superior quality"system". So I am sort of locked into keeping this pig running. The blower attachment works ok, the edger is not user friendly as the wheel height settings never stay where you lock them in. Unless Ryobi does something exceptional to make me happy, I will not buy another one of their products.

Ryobi Line Trimmer (775r) Jul 27, 2003
I am very happy with my Ryobi. Three years old and it starts every time. Some reviews say they can't start them and end up with blisters, but that's because they do not maintain them correctly. Just remember to add fuel stabalizer to your gas so that the fuel doesn't break down. These carberators are small and it wouldn't take much to plug 'em up. Even then, you can usually fix them by adding "Barrymans" gas additive to your fuel. Then allow the unit to idle for 5 minutes or so. Barrymans will break down any small varnish particles that may be plugging the fuel ports in the carb.I really like the optional attachments and how quick I can change them from one tool to another. It sure makes yardwork more of a pleasure. So, if your are ready, purchase the best...buy Ryobi.

Disappointed... Sep 08, 2001
By Gerald A Barthel Purchased the 725r with the trimmer plus straight shaft attachment. Really liked the speed spool feature. The gear box is very weak, broke mine in the first month. Bought a replacement straight shaft attachment and that one lasted only two weeks. ROYBI will not even return my call let alone replace the broken unit. Don't even waste your time on this model.

Just Follow Instructions Soldier!!! May 07, 2004

I have used the Ryobi Trimmer-Plus gas trimmer for about 4 years now.The only reason I had to replace my original 825r trimmer shaft was because I tried to use an Echo quick release spool which was too heavy and broke the rod inside the shaft. Now that I have read the instructions on how to correctly use the speed spool,I've found myself not changing the line every two minutes. I just bump the bumperhead on the ground and the line comes out with no hassle.

best string trimmer I've ever owned Jul 20, 2003
By B Scott I've had a Ryobi 725r String Trimmer for nearly 6 years and it has been the best yard equipment investment I've made besides my 16 year old Snapper Mower. With regular maintenance and care these tools have lasted me for years and I expect they will continue to last. If you had problems with one I would imagine you got one of the lemons that are always out there. Just Deal.....
