Swisher Trim-N-Mow Model ST60022Q Aug 25, 2006
By Jeff G. Winthrope When the Item was received, several small parts were missing. After contacting the Swisher company, I was assured that the missing parts would be provided at no cost. That promise was fulfilled.
However,, I have the following comments concerning the design of this machine: (These comments are keyed to the Swisher Owner's Manual, 10696 Rev-06-32).
1.The pull start is located on the engine. Most modern lawn machines with a 'handle safety squeeze bar' are configured with the pull handle mounted within easy reach of the handle.
2. The machine does not have any method of acheiving accurate cutting height, other than the operators ability to judge the distance between the cutting cords and the ground. The plastic threaded roller (item 10) is inadequate and the distance from the ground should be adjustable by the operator.
3. Operation of the machine causes cut material to pack into the space between the rear drive pulley (item 2) and the rear cover (item 5).
4. The engine 'cooling' design is self defeating because as material is cut it is sucked onto the top engine grill over the air flow intake and prevents air from flowing over the engine. That is not good and must prevent adequate engine cooling.
These changes in the aforementioned flaws would make your machine a much more usable item.
It would be nice if you responded to my comments.

good machine overall Sep 09, 2007
By Johnie G. Easter I am clearing 4-5ft. tall brush off my land. This machine knocks it down like crazy. I am amazed what a good job it does. I will say it is a little hard to start when the engine is cold but after that it starts first time the rest of the day. It probably be built a little tougher but then the price would just go up. For the price of this machine you can't find anything better on the market.

Just as good as my DR Trimmer Apr 04, 2007
By Anthony L. Phillips I bought this trimmer to replace my 5-yr old DR 5hp electric start trimmer which now refuses to start. (I can probably fix it, but don't have time right now).
The manual start Swisher starts easily, does just as good a job as my DR (long grass and weeds); the cords are much easier to replace and don't pull out. Best of all, it cost a lot less.
I did not buy electric start because the tiny battery on my DR quit after six months and costs far too much to replace.
So I am pleased with my purchase, and would not go back to DR. (I don't need any of the optional extras that DR offer).
Swisher not so sweet Jul 03, 2011
By jeff48920 There really is nothing I can say good about this trimmer. It is difficult to start even with the low compression engine. It bogs in 2 foot tall orchard grass and when it dies, it floods. It is clumsy on hills and worse yet when pushing up hill, digs into the dirt on the uphill side unless you ignore the directions and lift the front end of the machine. The line itself is fairly short lived and the method of attachment, while relatively easy, is not very secure. With all the problems, an area that takes me about 1 hour to trim with a standard string trimmer could not be finished in an hour and 15 minutes. I finally had to use the string trimmer to finish the job the Swisher couldn't. returned the machine to the store and got my money back. In my opinion, unless you have a flat area with no serious brush or grasses, this is a waste of time and money.

OK. But not great Nov 09, 2006
By Paul W. Harwood Sr. The machine was inoperable upon arrival because of very poor quality control in the assembly and packaging. After my efforts to correct these errors, the machine ran all right and was effective in cutting the huge amount of weeds on our property. I should mention that I spent many years correcting problems for a living making it relatively easy to get this machine running, however if one doesn't have good repair skills it would be a real adventure.
