Very Good Trimmer Sep 15, 2008
By Jim Thompson

I am happy with the trimmer, however I did have to replace the head with a better one. The trimmer has plenty of power to do the job. I am happy with the purchase price as well as the overall performance. I would purchase another one, if needed. I recommend this product!

No lack of power on this one Jul 20, 2009
By NorthAmericanXB-70 Purchased this to replace a 4 stroke Troy Bilt that conked out. I looked at the new Troy Bilt's, and they looked more cheaply made than the one I tossed in the trash.
This machine is made in USA with a Japanese Shindaiwa engine. It has a nice rumble at idle. Usually starts on the 3rd or 4th pull.
I prefer 4 stroke torque over the 2 strokes and their higher RPM. Specific details on this engine are hard to find. It's definitely a 4 stroke (you can see where the pushrods are in the pics I uploaded), but yes, you do mix gas and oil. There is no separate oil reservoir. I called Swisher to see if they could send me some cutaways of this engine, but they couldn't do it.
I never tried using the factory auto-feed head. I've never seen one that works. Maybe this one does, but it looked lame to me. Instead, I put on a 4-stringer Shindaiwa manual head which uses two 18.5" lengths of 0.130 string.
Machine has plenty of power. I find myself doing alot of cutting at half-speed. Full throttle really rips. You can cut a 1/2 tree branch like nothin'.
Pricewise, it's not cheap. But if you bought a Shindaiwa brand, you'd get a smaller cc 2 stroke for the same price. Remember, there's no substitute for cubic inches.
I recommend this product, and would buy it again.

Swisher Shindaiwa E4 - S4000 Jul 19, 2009
By Carl William Sisco

This is my second Shindaiwa line trimmer. I purchased the first over twenty years ago and it continues to run without effort. However, I needed something with "more power". Therefore, I purchased the 34cc 4-Stroke Swisher Shindaiwa Commercial Grade String Trimmer after researching the product on several websites. I have had the unit for three weeks and it has been an amazing piece of machinery with as much power as a person would want. I would have given the unit four stars; however, Swisher does not include a harness with the trimmer which is rather heavy to handle after a reasonable period of time. Also, Shindaiwa just can't get their trimmer heads to work. I have used the trimmer three times and I have already had to replace the head after it came apart; never did find the eyelets. I emailed Swisher to see if they will replace the head. Wish me luck!

Swisher E-4 is great Jul 01, 2009
By John Edmond I have owned a Shindaiwa 230 for over 10 years and have been very pleased with its performance and quality. I purchased the E-4 because I retired the 230. I was surprised by how powerful the trimmer performed, the amount of torque, RPM's and power. I was truly surprised by the difference in performance between the old Shindaiwa 230 and my new E4. The E4 cleared thick brush quickly with lots of power but was much quiter. The technology is much more advanced on this product and is impressive. The new way to load the string will blow your mind. I am very satisfied with this purchase.

Shindaiwa E4-S4000 Review Aug 14, 2010

Has excellent power and torque. Much quieter than two-cycle versions, however it does vibrate more than the two-cycle, and is harder to start. It is a bit heavier.
