No Brainer May 05, 2008
By Mike (Seattle, WA) The No Brainer from Tanaka couldn't be easier to install and use on your string trimmer. It took me longer to get it out of the package than it did to install it on the end of my Poulan gas powered string trimmer. I really hated replacing the line on my trimmer spool and never could get the line and spool put back just right so it fed out without getting stuck or tangled. The No Brainer really lives up to its name as it truly does take all the guess work out of changing your line and your downtime is minimal when the line needs to be replaced. The design is very well thought out and I have no doubt it will stand up to long term use. I should have bought this a long time ago!

Great Product! Jun 12, 2008
By Jimmy Fingers Although I've only used this head one time, I love it! I bought the pack of Tanaka string line, also on Amazon, for 6 bucks which pushed the total just over $25, making it eligible for free shipping, which made the string "free". As the other poster mentioned, this product seems to be of high quality and should last a long time. I have the peace of mind that I won't be trimming a hundred yards from my house and have to stop and tear apart a complex bump-feed head and mess with the #*$&%@ thing for 20 minutes. The Tanaka string is very quiet and very tough, I use it for edging and it lasts a long time, just carry another string in your pocket in case you need it. Excellent!!

No more tangled lines or doing the bump Aug 27, 2009
By computergreek This head screwed right on my Echo SRM 210 straight shaft right out of the box without any of the included adapters. Make sure you purchase the correct model (straight shaft or curved version) for your trimmer.
This head allows you to simply insert the appropriate length of string through the head while you depress the button on the side of the head. You can pre-cut a roll of your favorite trimmer line into 18 inch lengths and carry a few in your pocket to replace worn line. The better the line you get the longer it will go between changing.
The advantage to having the No Brainer is that you never have to wind trimmer line or stop to untangle or rewind it. Secondly, the head is always perfectly balanced. It is solid instead of hollow like the bump spools, and is smaller in diameter. That gives you a bit more power and gives you a much more balanced tool to work with.
I took off the guard on my like the pros do so I can see the line better when edging, have less weight at the end of the trimmer, and more balance. That also allows you to see the entire orbit of the trimmer line so that you can do a better job when you have the head in a vertical position for edging sidewalks and driveways. Just make sure to wear safety goggles and redouble the other safety measures when you take off the guard.
Changing the line takes 5 seconds. Depress the button while removing the old line and inserting a new 18" or so length. No more stopping in the middle of a trimming job to fuss with winding line on a spool. If you guy good line, you will be surprised how long you can go before you need to replace it.

"No Brainer"-Mixed Review Jul 31, 2008
By J. Meduna Tanaka has one great patented idea. HOWEVER, they need to stress in BOLD PRINT if one owns a straight shaft or curved shaft weedtrimmer--it really, really matters.
Tanaka is good about including different sized arbor adapters that can be mounted in place within the center of the cutting head for various makes of trimmers. I ordered my cutting head quickly being so impressed with positive reviews. Subsequently, I had to purchase a rethreading tap from an auto parts store for $3.00. This was necessary because the arbor Tanaka included in the set of arbors was a left-handed thread. Therefore, I used the rethreading tap to make my arbor adapter right-handed thread. In the end, I'm still happy that it worked out.
Tanaka, if you're listening/reading, please include as many arbor adapters with the cutting head as possible to accommodate just about any weed trimmer made--whether it's curved or straight shaft. Consumers would still be agreeable if the kit was a little higher priced.

Well Engineered Retro-Fit Apr 03, 2009
By Mark Jones This thing is a charm. After struggling for a couple of hours to get my old head off the trimmer (poor engineering), the Tanaka installed in five minutes. This unit has a balanced, highly engineered feel to it. It's not simply a piece of molded plastic. The package claims it is more efficient and will increase horsepower, and after my initial test I believe it. It gives the entire tool a different feel and balance. And I am looking forward to doing my yardwork without the frustration of untangling line ever thirty seconds! The kid includes several configurations of adapters-I believe their claim to fit 95% of all string trimmers! Great job Tanaka. I'm a believer and will take a look at your power tools next time I need something.
