A Landscaper's Friend Jun 17, 2000
By Mary K. Bye-Marsh The Weed Eater XT 114 14" electric trimmer is one of the best performers in its class. After perusing the gardening isle with my husband, we were looking for 4 traits in a "weedeater".1. Price 2. Reliability 3. Warranty 4. Ampage With a price tage under $40, a 2 yr. limited warranty and the name brand "Weed Eater", we narrowed the search to this tool and another generic brand. Both were in the price and warranty range; however the Weed Eater had an automatic rewind button, was more lightweight and had a more powerful motor. Our choice was easily made; Weed Eater was the trimmer for us!

WEED EATER XT114 ELECTRIC TRIMMER/EDGER May 17, 2001
The Weed Eater XT114 Electric Trimmer/Edger has a lot of power. It is relatively light and easy to manuever. I definitely recommend using gloves and safety glasses with this one. I have found it extremely difficult to egde with this unit. It does not have an edging guide on it like many of the Black & Decker models do. This makes it very difficult to position the unit to edge properly. I find myself hitting the concrete with the trimmer line or cutting grooves in my lawn instead of getting right along the edge of the pavement as would be wanted. The other problem is that when the trimmer line breaks off, I cannot get the line to auto feed back out. Tapping the spool on a hard surface should feed it back out, but I always end up taking the spool apart instead. When the spool is apart, I find the trimmer line melted to itself. I have no idea why this happens. I have tried a new spool and had the same problem. Overall, I like the weight, power, and balance of the XT114 - but next time I will buy a different brand.

What happened to quality? Sep 03, 2000
The construction of this unit is very "cheap". Lightwieght plastics, poor packaging, ill-fitting parts. Oh sure, it whacks weeds, but don't bother unless you want to pay $39.95 for a $19.95 product. Be prepared for missing or damaged parts, Amazon doesn't pack the item at all -- they just pull it off a shelf and slap the shipping label on the box.

A Great Choice1 May 06, 2011
By B. Mobley This is my 2nd weed eater product. My first one died after 10 years of regular use. I tried a newer weed eater with the auto spool and hated it. It didn't feed properly and just felt wrong. I searched the web and found the exact same model that I previously had and I feel whole again. This is an excellent product with great power. I look forward to the next 10 years.
